This certified product-version requires additional costs, contractual obligations, and technical and practical limitations as described below:
MacPractice, Inc offers both a standard MacPractice DC 5.0 or 5.1 version that does not offer the capabilities needed to meet the objectives of the EHR Incentive Program, and a MacPractice DC MU version 5.0 or 5.1 option that provides the capabilities needed to meet the objectives of the EHR Incentive program. MacPractice DC MU version 5.0 or 5.1 is the EHR technology that has been tested and certified as a Complete EHR. MacPractice, Inc. charges an initial fee for MacPractice DC MU version 5.0 or 5.1. In addition to the fee, MacPractice charges a recurring yearly support fee per provider. MacPractice licensees are required to sign an agreement when purchasing MacPractice DC MU version 5.0 or 5.1, which lists these fees.
The initial and recurring fees cover all features and capabilities which are not included in the standard MacPractice for the specific purpose of meeting the objectives of the EHR Incentive Program including, but not limited to; CPOE, drug-drug and drug-allergy interaction checks, generation and transmission of permissible prescriptions electronically, drug formulary checks, medication reconciliation, incorporation of clinical lab test results, submission of electronic data to immunization registries, submission of syndromic surveillance data to public health agencies, and doctor to doctor direct secure electronic transmission of summary of care records upon transition of patients to another provider of care.
The additional types of costs that an Eligible Provider would pay to implement this Complete EHR's capabilities in order to attempt to meet meaningful use objectives and measures or to achieve any other use within the scope of the health IT's certification include: monthly service fees for using ePrescribe, monthly lab interface support fees in some instances, integration fees for health information exchange, and an annual fee for MacPractice continued development and product support via toll free telephone, live chat, email, and remote access.
EHR Incentive Program objectives cannot be met with the standard MacPractice DC 5.0 or 5.1 version software. Meaningful Use can only be achieved with the purchase of MacPractice DC MU version 5.0 or 5.1. MacPractice licensees are required to maintain annual service agreements and upon expiration, many functionalities required for achieving Meaningful Use are disabled. The certified MacPractice product requires an internet connection to perform many required tasks and for licensing verification.
The certified MacPractice DC MU version 5.0 or 5.1 product is dependent upon third parties for some capabilities. These third parties are NewCrop for electronic prescribing, drug interaction and formulary checks and other functions. Updox is utilized to facilitate Direct Messaging. MedLinePlus is used to provide Infobutton service. MacPractice licensees may not choose alternatives to these third parties and are not required to enter into separate agreements with the third parties.

This is by far the best practice management software out there. We are an international surgical practice, and it took us over a year to find a software that would meet all of our needs. MacPractice is an intuitive and comprehensive solution to all of our medical practice management software needs.
MacPractice has a lot of power, if you invest to set it up or let MP do that for you with the concise direction of what you want, it can do A LOT! I have a few wish lists, but compared to other programs it is great! Wish they had more aspects incorporated, to only learn others outsource aspects of their functionality too and their functionality is limited in the end compared to MP. I love working within Mac, it allows my staff to easily maneuver & learn. The cloud is next I hear! Yeah.
MacPractice is a great program. There Support Team is OUTSTANDING!! Anyone you talk to is so knowledgeable and willing to help. If they don't know the answer they will get it for you. I have used other programs this one is great and the support is outstanding. When you need help they are there for you. 5 Stars and more.
I have used Macpractice for 6 years. It is nothing short of amazing. I have very customized history, physical exam, and patient result forms individualized to each patient. The previous emr's I have used including IDX do not come close to the capability of Macpractice. Plus my in-office server has never gone down; nor have I ever had software or system problems like so often happens on a PC format. Also their backup for questions on how to operate their software is excellent. I love it.
