Lincoln, NE, April 19, 2010 - MacPractice, the leading Apple developer of practice management and clinical software on Macs and iPhones for medical and dental offices, today announced the launch of new iPad integration solutions that allow dentists to use MacPractice DDS, DR (Digital Radiography/Photo) and EDR (Electronic Dental Record) on an iPad to leverage the efficiency and ease of use of Apple's latest innovation to streamline care, save time and reduce the risk of data entry errors.

"We've been overwhelmed with requests from dentists who want to use MacPractice DDS and MacPractice Endo on an iPad," said Mark Hollis, president of MacPractice. "The interface solutions we have tested make it possible for dentists to use this incredible device to chart existing conditions and treatment, enter visit notes and review x-rays and photos with a patient in the treatment room."

Besides qualifying its MacPractice iPhone Interface for use on the iPad, the new iPad interface solutions leverage collaborative technologies to make the total functionality of MacPractice DDS available on an iPad, including EDR, prescriptions and e-Prescribe, scheduling and more. The new MacPractice for iPad portal at www.MacPractice.com/iPad provides a complete guide to deploying and using the iPad with MacPractice.

Jonathan Ferencz, DDS, a prominent prosthodontist and clinical professor of prosthodontics at New York University College of Dentistry, used his iPad to show five patients their photos and x-rays in the dental chair.

"Four patients were so impressed that they scheduled appointments for suggested treatment," Ferencz said. "Were they moved by a clearer vision of their clinical condition and the obvious need for treatment? Or were they impressed with the exquisite display of the iPad and our technical prowess? Frankly, it didn't matter. My goal is to use the software and hardware tools available to enhance patient care, and that is exactly what is happening."

The MacPractice iPad interface enables dentists, hygienists, assistants and dental staff to:

Access MacPractice DDS from anywhere within the office with the iPad's portable, wireless, touch-screen interface. Using a remote desktop connection from the iPad to a Mac computer, dentists can have complete access to MacPractice DDS as well as all the native iPad functionality, untethered from the computer. Dental staff can easily carry all patient information from one exam room to another and use their finger or a stylus, plus an on-screen keyboard, to access the MacPractice database and add new patient data. If desired, data can also be entered by attaching a keyboard to the iPad or using the keyboard and mouse at the computer. Data is entered directly into MacPractice, eliminating the need to synchronize the iPad with the computer.

Access MacPractice from outside the office on an iPad. Full access to the complete MacPractice DDS system from anywhere with an internet connection makes it possible to view and update patient charts from home, a satellite office or anywhere.

Enable multiple users to simultaneously access MacPractice on a single computer from numerous iPads. Through collaboration with Aqua Connect, MacPractice for iPad allows multiple doctors to access the MacPractice system on a single machine at the same time, with local sound and audio support and built-in encryption that satisfies HIPAA guidelines.

"We are proud to offer this joint solution with MacPractice that delivers on the high expectations dentists have had since the announcement of the iPad," said Ronnie Exley, Vice President of Aqua Connect. "The ability to deliver Mac OS X desktops and MacPractice in its full functionality to the iPad has the potential to revolutionize workflow in dentistry."

Chart restorative and periodontal conditions and treatment on an iPad and review x-rays and photos with patients. Dentists, dental assistants, and hygienists who use MacPractice DDS may use the iPad's touch screen to chart examinations and review x-rays and photos with the patient in the treatment room. They can even provide patient education information and entertainment for the patient during procedures using native iPad applications.

Complete medical EMR questionnaires on an iPad. Office staff using MacPractice can create a customized kiosk for each individual patient with all of the forms required for the visit and hand the patient an iPad on which to complete health, social and other history forms. Upon completion, the forms will become part of the patient's record in MacPractice EDR.

Use an iPad for patient registration. Utilizing MacPractice's web interface, patients can register for appointments and procedures on an iPad and complete HIPAA forms either in the office or from home. This not only streamlines the registration process, saves paper and time, but also helps reduce the risk of data-entry errors due to illegible handwriting or typing errors.

Physicians Assured MacPractice EMR Compliance with New EHR/EMR Standards to Qualify for Government Incentives Once Final Rule is Established

Lincoln, NE, April 6, 2010 - MacPractice, the leading Apple developer of practice management and clinical software for medical and dental offices, today announced that as part of its plan to pursue certification to the federal government's proposed Health Information Technology standards for electronic medical records/electronic health records (EMR/EHR), the company will provide a free upgrade to its newly certified version for new customers once certification is achieved.

MacPractice leverages Apple's legendary ease of use, stability and low-cost maintenance to create affordable, intuitive and flexible Mac-native software for doctors.

The free upgrade will be available to all customers who purchase MacPractice EMR between now and the time certification is achieved. Per the current guidelines issued by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC), certain physicians who accept Medicare and demonstrate meaningful use of a certified EHR/EMR solution in 2010 could qualify for up to $44,000 in incentives through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA). Incentive payments begin October 2011. More money is available to physicians who treat Medicaid patients, and a different payment schedule applies.

"The best reason for a doctor to purchase MacPractice EMR remains the same: to enhance office and personal productivity, reduce administrative cost and provide superior patient care," said Mark Hollis, president and co-founder of MacPractice. "However, we also want to assure new customers that they can count on MacPractice EMR to become a certified product as soon as that is possible."

Hollis notes that while no EMR/EHR provider can guarantee a doctor will use its software to successfully demonstrate meaningful use, anymore than a doctor can guarantee a patient will take their medication as prescribed, MacPractice guarantees that its EMR solution will be certified and new customers will be upgraded at no additional cost

"We continue to make enhancements to MacPractice EMR in order to meet the anticipated Final Rule for software certification and help physicians satisfy the evolving ‘meaningful use' stipulation," Hollis said. "If there are no major surprises in the Final Rules promised in June, we plan to submit for certification immediately after finalization. For new customers, we will provide a money-back guarantee effective in the event that we are unable to provide a certified update within five months after Final Rules are published and certification begins."

For a limited time, MacPractice EMR pricing starts at $4,000 for three providers with annual EMR support and updates for just $600 per office, making MacPractice EMR one of the most affordable options in the industry. MacPractice practice management software is required.

MacPractice, which is currently used by some 3,000 practicing physicians, combines a state-of-the-art EHR/EMR solution with practice management tools in an easy-to-use, intuitive system that can improve patient care, efficiency and productivity. Built Exclusively for the Apple Platform, MacPractice Continues Development to Help Physicians Comply with Forthcoming EHR/EMR Standards

Lincoln, NE, March 23, 2010 - MacPractice, the leading Apple developer of practice management and clinical software for medical and dental offices, today announced that the company plans to become the first EHR/EMR solution built exclusively for the Mac platform to achieve certification to the federal government's proposed Health Information Technology standards for electronic health records/electronic medical records (EHR/EMR).

As the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) for Health Information Technology works to finalize the certification guidelines, MacPractice has continuously upgraded its solution to meet the evolving standard, so that once a Final Rule is established, the company can apply immediately for certification under the program. As the only EHR/EMR solution designed specifically for optimum performance on the Mac platform, the company anticipates that it will be the first of its kind to achieve certification.

"Physicians who use MacPractice EMR today increase their productivity and lower their costs by leveraging Apple's legendary ease of use, simplicity and reliability to manage their patient records and practices," said Mark Hollis, president and co-founder of MacPractice. "And, while the ONC has yet to issue the Final Rule for EHR/EMR programs, we're keeping up with these developments to ensure that MacPractice EMR also provides the best opportunity to help physicians qualify for any incentives for which they may be eligible."

Per the current guidelines issued by the ONC, certain physicians who accept Medicare and who deploy and demonstrate meaningful use of a certified EHR/EMR solution could qualify for up to $44,000 in financial incentives through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) beginning in October 2011. More money is available to physicians who treat patients covered by Medicaid.

On March 10, the ONC published a revised version of the proposed rule establishing a certification program for electronic health records software in the Federal Register (Doc. 2010-4991), which kicked off the public comment period for the proposed temporary and permanent EHR testing and certification programs. The new version is available for public inspection at http://edocket.access.gpo.gov/2010/pdf/2010-4991.pdf.

In anticipation of the Final Rule, last week the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCARRA) announced its intent to apply to become an authorized certifying organization as soon as the Final Rule for authorization of certifying organizations is issued. The Drummond Group, an Austin, Texas-based company with 20 years of certification experience in other industries, has also announced its intentions. Other organizations are expected to follow suit. The ONC has promised Final Rules on meaningful use and EHR certification standards sometime in June.

"We continue to make enhancements to MacPractice EMR in order to meet the anticipated Final Rule for software certification and help physicians demonstrate the still-evolving 'meaningful use' stipulation," Hollis said. "If there are no major surprises in the Final Rule promised at the end of June, we plan to submit for certification immediately after finalization, in any case less than five months."

MacPractice, which is currently used by some 2000 practicing physicians, combines a state-of-the-art EHR/EMR solution with practice management tools in an easy-to-use, intuitive, integrated system that improves patient care, efficiency and productivity.

Lincoln, NE, January 29, 2010 - MacPractice, Inc., the leading Apple developer of practice management and clinical software for medical, dental and chiropractic offices, announced plans for development of several medical and dental software applications for deployment on Apple’s newly announced iPad.
MacPractice medical and dental software Interface for the iPad is a new version MacPractice Interface for iPhone 2.0 redesigned to take advantage of the iPad’s larger screen. A physician, dentist, chiropractor or optometrist may connect via Wi-Fi or 3G to access their schedule and patient records in MacPractice. Patient photos, alerts, prescription history and appointment history are all available. The patient’s address is linked to Google Maps. Reminders on the iPad create MacPractice Reminders in the office for staff and providers to request an appointment, communicate instructions, or as a way to make a clinical note in MacPractice EMR. A doctor may monitor what is happening in the office from the hospital or golf course by viewing up-to-date daily management reports.

Doctors who perform hospital rounds or see patients at a remote location can now add new patients and post procedures and diagnoses into MacPractice in their office from their iPad or iPhone (requires the MacPractice HL7 Interface).

MacPractice Kiosk for iPad (iPad App) and MacPractice Web Interface for iPad will provide the ability for patients and staff to complete and sign MacPractice EMR forms including patient registration, HIPAA release, medical history, etc. on an iPad.

Chairside Dental Chart for iPad (iPad App) will interface with MacPractice DDS to record preexisting conditions, restorative and periodontal treatment and treatment plans.
MacPractice is developing an iPad EMR / EHR App to integrate with MacPractice MD, MacPractice DC, MacPractice DDS and MacPractice 20/20. No details are available.

Lincoln, NE, December 17, 2009 - MacPractice, Inc., the leading Apple developer of practice management and clinical software for medical, dental and chiropractic offices, has added many new features and has enhanced its Single Window Interface™ for all MacPractice products including MacPractice EMR.

Enhancements to MacPractice's Single Window Interface™ make patient information easily and quickly accessible from MacPractice's EMR, Patients and Schedule Abilities. For example, the patient's attachments, which may include lab results, correspondence and other documents, can now be accessed from the patient's Electronic Medical Record. Photos and x-rays stored in MacPractice Imaging or MacPractice DR (Digital Radiography) may be viewed, as can word processing documents and templates created in MacPractice Note. All clinical items may be viewed in the billing ledger as well.

While MacPractice users still have the ability to open as many windows as they like, and they can easily and intuitively navigate from one MacPractice Ability, such as Patients, Schedule, Note, Attachments, Imaging, Rx, to another by simply clicking in the Toolbar, they now also have a simple, effective alternative navigation technique allowing them to see content in the other Abilities for the patient right from where they are.

The most requested feature for MacPractice EMR from primary care physicians has been to see all of the clinical information stored throughout MacPractice from within MacPractice EMR, and that has been addressed with this enhancement.
The recent update to MacPractice includes a new purchased option: Lab Ability. With the Lab Ability, MacPractice users can track orders, results, a doctor's review of results and communications with patients. They can also print requisitions from the Lab Tracker if that has been arranged with their preferred Lab.

For dentists, MacPractice has added presets for SuniRay digital sensors, which promises to saves hours of initial set-up time. X-ray orientation and image quality setting defaults have been added, and background color for x-ray layouts is now user-definable. MacPractice has also updated its drivers for Planmeca's new Pro sensors and panorama and cephalometric equipment. Also for dentists, clinical notes may now be associated with teeth in MacPractice's Perio and Restorative Chart.
MacPractice takes advantage of the enhanced stability of MySQL 5.0.75 and offers a free recommended upgrade for all users of MacPractice 3.6.x. MacPractice 3.6.10.11 is Leopard, Snow Leopard and Snow Leopard Server compatible.
